The weather Thursday will be foggy and cloudy, with a high near 49. By nighttime, rain will move into the area with widespread fog.
By Friday, moderate to heavy rain will move across the state. Temps will be in the upper 50s with widespread fog. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
Heavy rain will continue into Friday night.
New rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts.
The combination of melting snow and rain should allow rivers and streams to rise, breaking up the ice, and potentially allowing ice jams to form. Rivers and streams could see sudden rises near these ice jams.
Moderate to heavy rainfall along with warming temperatures may result in urban/poor drainage flooding along with a potential for flooding along rivers and streams.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of southern Connecticut and the Hudson Valley in New York.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
The rain will continue into Saturday with temps in the 40s. There is a chance of rain or freezing rain after 4 p.m. as temperatures plunge below freezing. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, but little to no ice accumulation is expected.
Temperatures will drop to 21 degrees by Saturday night.
